Renee Frodgers is a minor antagonistic character of Amphibia. She is a theater director who set up her own acting caravan, but secretly used it as a distraction to rob banks in the towns they passed through. However, she was subsequently exposed by Hop Pop and was arrested.[3]
Appearance[]
Body[]
Renee is a short acid green newt, with a paler yellowish underside, and has black chin-length hair.
Clothing[]
She wears a black beret, a pair of red-tinted glasses, and a red scarf, as well as a gray button-up shirt, with darker gray pants and gloves, as well as black leather-like boots.
Personality[]
Renee at first glance appears to be a kind director who is very passionate about her work and who encourages newcomers to act, but is still very strict about acting form at auditions. However, she is secretly frustrated by how little is actually earned in the theater, leading her to the point of using her theatrical caravan as a distraction to rob the banks of the towns they go to, misleading both the audience and her own acting group about her true intentions.
Background[]
Early life[]
Renee Frodgers is a theater director, best known for directing the play "Fear the Dry Swamp", as well as setting up her own theater caravan, which toured different towns in Amphibia to show her plays. However, the plays offered by her caravan were only a distraction so that she and her two assistants could rob the banks of the towns as she considers that at present there is very little to be gained from theater. All this she did without her own acting group knowing about it.[3]
Meeting Hop Pop and arrest[]
One day, Renee helped Hop Pop Plantar and his family escape from a giant sandworm in the Dry Swamp, and seeing Hop Pop's love for theater, she invited them to join her caravan. She offered Hop Pop the lead role in one of the upcoming plays, but when he auditioned, she decided he wasn't right for the part, causing Hop Pop to spend a long time in her office disappointed that he wasn't cast. When Renee asked him to leave as she felt the situation was becoming sad, Hop Pop told her in a dramatic way that it was sadder that his dreams couldn't come true, but Renee, seeing the way he said that and considering that Hop Pop takes the theater as "real", changed her mind and gave him the part. Hop Pop then began performing in the different towns as the lead actor, while Renee and her assistants secretly robbed the banks.
One day Hop Pop goes to find Renee to make a script suggestion for a play, but he sees that she is meeting strangely with her assistants, which makes Renee decide to tell him the truth and convinces him not to tell anyone about it. However, Hop Pop in the middle of a performance in one of the towns decides to tell the truth and expose Renee. She then tries to escape but Hop Pop tries to go after her to prevent her from stealing the money, and when it looks like Renee was going to manage to escape, she is ambushed by a sandworm and subsequently arrested. It is unknown what became of her acting troop following Renee's defeat.[3]
