This mind-controlling mushroom is a rare species of sentient mushroom that is able to attach itself to the host's skulls and control them in every aspect. They serve as the 5th sentient species of Amphibia.

Appearance[]

The mushroom consists of a thick white stalk with a pink cap, covered in pale blue spots. There are also light-blue spores dotted across the cap of the mushroom, which causes mind-controlling effects on any living creature.

Background[]

One of the last mushrooms found its way to Wartwood Swamp. Using an infected resident named Lloyd as its puppet, the strain branded itself as Apothecary Gary and sold mushroom spores to the residents, thereby allowing the mushrooms to spread, and before long, almost the entire town was infected. Hop Pop discovered that snails naturally preyed on the mushroom, so Bessie ate Gary off of Lloyd's head, and the mushroom colony quickly died off. A sole jar of mushroom spores was knocked over by Hop Pop, and was found and eaten by Jeremy the beetle, which caused spores to grow on him.[1] The mushroom made its way to safety thanks to the inhabitants of Gardenton, and they formed a symbiotic relationship. The frogs used the spores willingly to improve their gardening skills without Gary actually controlling them, giving the mushroom willing subjects.

Following the launch of King Andrias's global conquest, he had factories set up to harvest the mushroom's mind control serum and modify it for administration into mind-controlling collars on the local megafauna. The collars made the animals subservient under his control, thereby boosting his forces in the Wartwood area.[2]

Sightings[]

Trivia[]

  • The mushroom is similar to types of fungi that exist and turn insects into hosts. For example, Ophiocordyceps unilateralis transforms ants into zombie-like, mind-controlled bodies.
  • It seems that the spores retain the memories of the original as Gary has all of his memories when he's controlling Jeremy after the beetle ate his spores.
