Gosh dang it, I tried to fight it but I have to say, even I'm a little impressed with how you just saved the town from a raging inferno.
—Mayor Toadstool, "Anne of the Year"

Frodrick Toadstool is a supporting character in Amphibia. He is the former mayor of Wartwood Swamp, who now serves as the assistant to the current mayor Toadie, and was widely viewed by the town's citizens as corrupt.

Appearance[]

Toadstool is a large light green toad. He wears a maroon jacket with dark elbow patches and gold designs on the edges over a white undershirt. He also wears a lilac cravat, puffy dark gray pants, and dark brown shoes.

He has 5 gold rings, 2 of which have red gemstones and one of which has a light blue gemstone. He is frequently seen walking around with a curved gold cane. Unlike most toads, his skin is smooth, his eyes are large, and his teeth are not pointed.

According to Anne, he looks like "if the Monopoly man had a baby with a piece of fried chicken."

Personality[]

He is rude, arrogant and greedy. He only thinks about money and himself, thinking that money is the solution to all of his problems and everybody else's, too. He loves being put on a pedestal and is selfish, arrogant, and self-centered about the frogs of Wartwood. He is very competitive and willing to do anything for the sake of fame and his reputation, up to and including bribing or cheating somebody or sabotaging something. He considers everyone, especially Anne and the Plantars, beneath him and is not afraid to openly voice his disdain for them. He is remarkably clever and cunning, however, and a quick plotter, loving to cash in on an opportunity when it falls in his lap.

Nonetheless, he does occasionally show a reasonably honorable side. He was willing to hold up his end of any deals or bargains that he took part in. He is shown to have disliked Anne as he tried to discouraged her from winning the Frog of the Year award, but had a hard time admitting it that she deserved it. He will also risk his life to protect and save the people of Wartwood as shown in "Anne of the Year" and "Reunion", hinting his eventual reformation, though he admits it is for his own greedy benefit.

In Season 2, he soon becomes less greedy and begins to be more helpful, kind, and much more interested in the things of his town than before because he likes the appreciation of the townspeople since he saved them from the tower, even going so far as to sabotage his appointment to be the new leader of the Toad Tower so he could stay in Wartwood. He's also shown to be lazy, as he opted to take a 12-hour nap rather than manage his citizens while they prepare for the Battle of The Bands.

In Season 3, he and the other Wartwood citizens treated Sasha with kindness and sympathy. Even if she reveals the truth and admitted her lies, they forgive her and accepts her as the town's defender. He became the part of the Wartwood Resistance against King Andrias. By the end of the series, Toadstool stepped down as Wartwood's mayor and became the assistant for Toadie, the new mayor, and admitted that he helped Toadie to become the new Mayor through means of bribery and his connections.

Biography[]

In "Anne or Beast?", Mayor Toadstool is first seen listening to One-Eyed Wally describe his encounter with a monster in the woods. Toadstool then declares that the creature should be caught and dealt with as that is the 'right' thing to do for his citizens as everyone applauds for him. Toadstool then organizes a mob to hunt down the monster who turns out to be a human girl named Anne Boonchuy. After Anne saves the mob from a giant red mantis, Toadstool and the mob tries to run Anne out of town, only to be stopped by Sprig Plantar. Toadstool then begrudgingly allows Sprig's grandfather, Hop Pop take Anne in into his home and leaves with the rest of the mob.

In "Hop Luck", Mayor Toadstool is holding Wartwood's annual potluck where he taste-testing all of the competitors' dishes. He approaches the last delicacy which belongs to the Plantar family. He compliments their dish consisting of a tomato, but after tasting it, he informs that while it is the best dish they made so far, it still tastes the worse. This causes Anne and the Plantars to lose the potluck and sit in the shame-cage.

In "Breakout Star", Mayor Toadstool learns his poll numbers have dropped down and when he sees Anne being praised by the townsfolk for having pimples, he gets an idea. Mayor Toadstool invites Anne to act as a spokesperson for him and she accepts, as this means that people will stop being afraid and frightened of her. When Anne wakes up one day to discover her pimples are gone, she gets the Plantars to help her find replacements for her acne. When Anne arrives in time to give a speech to Wartwood's citizens, Toadstool is displeased to hear Anne was with the Plantars and points out that due to her new status she shouldn't be hanging out with the lower class anymore. Anne nods and says she understands before heading out onto the stage to give a speech. However, Anne removes her berries in front of everyone much to their shock and Toadstool humiliates himself by calling the citizens "idiots," asking how he would get their votes now before being pelted by fruit.

In "Toad Tax", Mayor Toadstool and Toadie meet with Bog, Fens, and Mire and gives them a list of names of the civilians who hadn't paid their taxes to the toads of Toad Tower. However, Toadstool has been secretly keeping the tax money all to himself and hide the money in a statue of himself. This causes Bog, Fens, and Mire to bully the citizens and steal their belongings as punishment for not paying their taxes. When Sprig discovers Toadstool to be hoarding the money, the mayor chases Sprig, but the young frog is able to reveal Toadstool's crimes to the citizens and tax collectors by showing where Toadstool had been keeping the money. As Toadstool claims he was keeping the money to "buy" the citizens' favor, Toadstool is pelted by fruit again as he pardons himself of his crimes.

In "Grubhog Day", Toadstool holds the annual Grubhog Day festival and ceremony with Sprig being put in charge of the grubhog. When the "grubhog" pops out of its stump, Toadstool has Sprig feed and clean it where the "grubhog" does various tricks on Sprig to make the audience laugh. Toadstool praises Sprig for restoring his family's name in taking take care of the grubhog before he proceeds to kill the "grubhog" to check for spots on its liver to predict the weather. However, he is stopped by Sprig who reveals the "grubhog" is actually a puppet controlled by Anne and that he had lost the real grubhog while having fun at the fair. Angered, Toadstool belittles Sprig for losing the grubhog and ruining the ceremony, but Hop Pop defends his grandson. After Sprig and Anne develop a puppet show to replace the traditional Grubhog Day ceremony, Toadstool hosts the show which has become popular for over one night.

In "Fiddle Me This", Toadstool and Toadie participate in the "Amphibia's Got Talent" show in Wartwood. They do a juggling act with Toadstool sitting on Toadie's shoulders while the latter drives a unicycle. However, the judges are not impressed with their act and activates a hidden spring which sends Toadstool and Toadie flying off the stage, disqualifying them from the show. After the Plantars win the talent show, Toadstool and Toadie activate the hidden spring, sending the judges flying away as payback for disqualifying them.

In "Children of the Spore", Toadstool is one of the many people who had fallen under the mind control of Apothecary Gary. Toadstool and everyone else under Apothecary Gary's control attack the Plantar farm and try to capture Hop Pop, the only frog in Wartwood who is not under the effects of the mind-controlling mushroom spores. However, Hop Pop is able to trick Apothecary Gary by having Bessie eat the mind-controlling mushrooms growing onto everyone's heads, including Toadstool's. After Apothecary Gary's defeat, Toadstool and everyone else is free from his mind control where Toadstool questions why he is at the Plantar farm and what day it is as he heads back home.

In "Anne of the Year", Toadstool has all of the citizens gather in the center of Wartwood before announces the winner of the annual Frog of the Year award. Toadstool is not pleased to learn Anne had won the award, believing she does not fit the qualities a Frog of the Year must possess or having the honor to host a party in her name. Though Anne promises to prove herself and host a great party, Toadstool does not think so and his cruel comments on her causes Anne to overwork herself and everyone else in setting up her party.

When Anne finishes setting up her party, Toadstool attends it where he asks Stumpy what kind of food he is serving. He takes an interest in the mudskipper Stumpy is serving before it comes to life and starts chasing him. Eventually, the mudskipper wrecks havoc, causing the party to be engulfed in a fire. Anne takes control of the mudskipper and asks Toadstool for his help in saving the townsfolk which he reluctantly agrees to. Toadstool and Anne manage to save everyone from the fire before putting it with a chocolate fountain. After putting out the fire, Toadstool celebrates their victory before he notices how miserable Anne is when she admits about him being right about her not deserving to be Frog of the Year. However, when hearing the townsfolk comfort Anne by revealing she was nominated because of her selflessness, Toadstool reveals he was denying the fact of Anne deserving the award and apologizes to her for doubting her. After making amends with Anne, Toadstool and the citizens salvage the remains of the party and continue have it, celebrating Anne's winning of the Frog of the Year award.
